The works included a new oval shape feature stair and a feature glass lift. The existing structure is a concrete encased steel frame which has been previously adapted during refurbishments.

The design required an oval shaped void in the first floor level to allow for the feature staircase; this entailed new steelwork to trim the voids and an infill Comflor slab to cantilever over the steels and form the required shape.

Fluid coordinated closely with the appointed lift consultant to ensure support structures satisfied strict tolerance requirements. The proposed lift required a lift pit below the existing basement level; however this lift pit lies directly above a TFL Victoria line underground tunnel.

We worked closely with TFL and Geotechnical specialists GEA to provide a solution which would not affect the underground tunnel.
