Glass Staircase, North London

The project involved the design of a structural glass staircase for a private residence.

The glass treads were supported on a toughened glass stringer at the half landing level. The treads consisted of toughened glass sheets “taped€ to acrylic panels which were bedded on the plywood panels fixed to the walls. The glass stringer allowed the development of a double height space between the staircase and the window of the rear wall. The client kept a writing bureau here and the space was illuminated with natural light heightened by the transparent glass staircase, providing a quiet and contemplative atmosphere.
