Glass Staircase, 9 Northumberland Place

The complete refurbishment of this Victorian Townhouse included the creation of a new rooftop terrace.

Access to the terrace is by a new minimalist glass stair, engineered by Fluid, with treads disappearing into the flank walls. Natural light permeates down through the stair to the second floor. The spine wall was created in timber studs sheathed with plywood. The ply was routed horizontally to receive the treads and the stud was subsequently skimmed and painted.
