Arcadia House

Fluid Structures were appointed to undertake the structural engineering design of two new grid shell roofs (north and south) which enclose five-storey atriums for the existing Arcadia Group’s headquarters building at Berners Street, London.

The grid shells were designed and constructed under a CDP, in accordance with outline design requirements in the Employer’s Requirements. It was necessary for Fluid to create a wiremesh using the fabricator’s drawings and Autocad 3D. This mesh was then imported into structural analysis software in order to enable the roof’s behaviour to be modelled, with the steelwork forces and deflections then determined. The structural design includes all steelwork, connections and glazing design. An ambitious construction programme was planned, with effective coordination between several key stakeholders required.
