Al Koot Costume Museum

This project involved the construction of a museum of traditional costumes and textiles which was to be integrated with an existing 1930’s fort building.

The work involved the construction of a large basement and the creation of a new external courtyard area. This was to be done by the introduction of vertical tread elements which act as pillars in the substructure but also have other functions such as acting as light wells, service ducting etc. The treads were weaved together above the ground to signify areas of entrance or where structure was required to support roofs or canopies.
