As a practice, we use a variety of techniques to provide design engineering input. We understand that both the design team and quite often the client need to be able to clearly see our proposals. To facilitate this we employ the following techniques:
-
Making models
Our models are simple explorations of structured solutions. They explore stability, movement, local instabilities, buckling etc. They are not intended to be architectural or formal presentation devices. -
We carry out sophisticated analysis
The practice runs a number of finite elements software packages which are used to model the performance of complicated shapes or structures that do not conform to the simple stick and beam form. -
Specify testing and mock ups
Quite often we commission specific testing to check our ideas and to search for interference problems that are not readily apparent. These tests range from compression tests on glass columns to full scale mock ups of facade systems.
