The project was a refurbishment and extension of a Georgian detached house in West London. This involved the construction of a staircase with timber carcassing sprayed with a high gloss lacquer finish. The architectural idea was for the staircase to run as a ribbon, connecting the new extension with the existing house. The engineering challenge lay in analysing its complex geometrical form.
