The work involved the wholesale refurbishment of a five-storey Victorian London townhouse. The lower ground was underpinned so that the slab could be lowered and the headroom improved. A number of load-bearing walls were removed at the lower level to improve the circulation and create a contemporary open plan space. This was achieved by introducing a number of large steel box frames which were inserted in the building whilst the walls above were supported on temporary works. The project was a text book example of the refurbishment of a tricky end of terrace property.
