TThe project involved the refurbishment and extension of an existing Victorian House in Castelnau, Barnes. The main elements of the works included adding a two storey rear extension and a double height double-glazed structural glass enclosure.
Several methods of construction were investigated including steel frame with metal deck and ASB (beams), concrete frame and modular construction. Given the height constraints a concrete flat slab was deemed most suitable as it ensured the minimum structural floor zone. Concrete also has inherent fire resistance, provides acoustic separation and moderates against diurnal temperature variations.
