The project involves the construction of a new eleven-storey student accommodation block in North London. Several methods of construction were investigated including steel frame with metal deck and ASB (beams), concrete frame and modular construction. Given the height constraints a concrete flat slab was deemed most suitable as it ensured the minimum structural floor zone. Concrete also has inherent fire resistance, provides acoustic separation and moderates against diurnal temperature variations.
