Flying Start

Flying Start is a new build 150 metre span roof over the original aircraft hangers used by the Wright Brothers when they were developing their flying machines. It is intended to house a heritage centre, conference centre, theatre and concert venue.
The structural arrangement has echos of the launch of an aircraft and has a lightness that is also reminiscent of the aircraft form. The frame is a hybrid of steelwork and composite WC / plywood stressed skin panels which span up to 25 metres.
