Fluid Structures were asked by the Victoria Miro Gallery to act as the structural engineer for the construction of a new multi-purpose private gallery. The space was to be created on the roof of an existing three storey warehouse building in East London.
The new floor is 6 to 7 metres tall and consists of a steel-framed box clad in white external panels.
The structure is supported by spanning the new floor and roof between the existing party walls.
The design is such that a load trade-off assessment showed new foundation work was not required. The existing warehouse structure had sufficient capacity to support the new high level "box" provided the lower floors were re-classified as residential.
